Why Choose An Orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a dental specialist that has had additional training and education in the treatment of dental and facial irregularities.
Education:
All orthodontists must have completed college before admittance into an accredited dental school (approved by the American Dental Association). To become a specialist in orthodontics, the individual must complete the four year dental program and then attain at least an additional two to three years of formal training in an accredited orthodontic program. The orthodontist receives further education and instruction in the proper guidance and correction of jaw growth and managing careful tooth movement.
The only dentists that are allowed to identify themselves as orthodontists are those who received additional training in the advanced orthodontic specialty education programs.
